Philosophy: Finding joy in the process.
I met Godwin on one of those "The Walking Dead" kind of days. You know what I'm talking about, those days that are non-stop and once you remove yourself from it all, you're left mindlessly staring at nothing or thinking of nothing! That was me. Zombie Amanda opened Godwin's car door and was met by his refreshing smile and warm greetings. BAM! Just like that Godwin poured a bit of life into me!
His accent sounded a little too familiar so I asked him where he was from. "I'm from Kenya," Godwin said with pride! I straightened my back a bit more and leaned forward asking him if he ever traveled to Uganda, Kenya's neighbor, and my home for six months. He knew all about Uganda and its tribes and shared some stories of Kenya and his tribe. He and I were smiling from ear to ear!!! He then asked me to google his name, I did and found out he's a bestselling author in Kenya! Y'all, he's on Amazon!!
He moved to Houston, Texas to study his passion, psychology. However, what he didn't know, was that in order to be successful with his passion, it required multiple degrees and a lot of money.
I asked Godwin if he had a family. "I do," he said turning around with that great big smile, "one daughter and one son." They both love school and are excelling in it! This proud dad said one of his kids hopes to be a doctor one day and the other a writer!
While we were on the subject of hope, Godwin said he too has big hopes for himself: to master writing in English so he can one day pen a book here in the US and to work in the field of psychology! Godwin radiated joy, and in case you didn't know, joy is INFECTIOUS! By the time he parked his car outside the Houston airport, he handed me one of his books to keep and a little piece of his philosophy: life is a process but you gotta find the joy in it ALL! Thank you, Godwin, for turning this zombie into something living and breathing!
